THE FIRE
It's a
rainy night in Rushlake Green
And I should be fast asleep
But the crackle of the fire glow
Speaks to me and I listen close
For the secrets told are the ones to know
And I am here to learn
From my
point of view it's all the same
The L.A. sun or this English rain
It all depends on where your brain directs your heart to be
And by and by I am growing numb to this wind that shakes the trees
And these never ending thoughts of a girl
That followed me half way around the world
These never ending thoughts of a girl
Are now visions in the flame
I suspect
that soon they will disappear
And I won't remember she was here
And I know that as my deepest fear
And they all say I'm all right
So my
friends remember as we age
An open heart is an open cage
Through the forest down the freeways
We are empty without love
It's a
sunny day in my hometown now
But I cannot feel it shining
I only know this cold wet night
As I stir the wood to make the fire bright
And I drink some more to feel alright
But we note that it's not working
Still the
fire it becomes my friend
As I listen to its stories
For the colors they recall the past
But the warmth they hold can never last
And we both are cooling off so fast
As night gives way to morning
So my
friends remember as we age
An open heart is an open cage
Through the forest down the freeways
We are empty without love
There are
infants
There are ancient men
They'll all go out the same
We are here and then we're here again
Though we don't remember where or when
But a flash or two come sneaking in
On these rainy nights and morning
Now the
fire it is half past gone
My arms and legs are heavy
I will move this body up to bed
I will stop this chatter in this head
I will not remember words she said
I will clean up in the morning
But my
friends remember as we age
An open heart is an open cage
Through the forest down the freeways
We are empty without love
It's a
rainy night in Rushlake Green
And I should be fast asleep
But the crackle of the fire glow
Speaks to me
And I listen close
For the secrets told are the ones to know
And I am here to learn
